[Blog] Same Old...
Written by footballfriend on Thursday, 23rd Feb 2012 13:58

I have never written a blog before, so I am a bit unsure where to start - but here goes!

I don't tend to comment too much on the stories that are posted on this site, however I am an avid reader, logging on to the site every day probably 10 times or more to view the latest news. However, if I feel input is needed or I can offer a worthy opinion I will.

There are a lot of posters on this site who have very valid and well thought through points, some I agree with and some I don't - but that is all part of being human, we all have different opinions.

However there are certain 'fans' out there who continuously bring up the bad points of this season time and time again. One phrase that I have seen used on numerous occasions is "but we have still lost over half of our games this season" - in response to that, I have three words: Get. Over. It.

Nothing anyone can do will change the past, and I wish people would see it that way and actually comment on things worth commenting on, such as our amazing run we are on right now - four straight wins.. brilliant! Or the revelation of Hyam and Drury in the centre of our midfield. Or the fact we have kept back to back clean sheets. Or the mentality of the team, staff and manager - all fantastic, and exactly what we all expect.

I know we have had a couple of bad runs this year and everyone was calling for the manager's head (some people more than others), but let's face it, we are doing brilliantly at present, and if we can bring this form into next season and kick-off from day one and dare I say it reach the play-offs/automatic promotion - EVERYONE will be saying how superb Paul Jewell is.

My view is that things take time to gel, and it takes a big man to admit when he is wrong. Just like Jewell did when he signed all of our 30+ players to try and win promotion in one go. But now I believe he has the right formula and everything at present is going perfectly.

No one at all can have anything bad to say about the last four games and my advice would be forget the beginning of this season and concentrate on moving forward and supporting our team and our manager 100%.

I am sure a lot of you may slate me for writing a pointless blog, but I just needed to get this off my chest and feel that certain people need to stop living in the past and actually help move this club forward. (I am talking about the small minority here - no names mentioned!).

Agree ! Sometimes on this site [ that we all love ], the opinions become a real downer. Even when the stories have a lift to them, some top-hat finds something negative to say about them. We've put up with enough rubbish over the last few seasons without clinging on to it, and remember ;_ Always look on the bright..................etc, etc, etc.

I agree with what you are saying - my one issue with Ipswich is thats its all or nothing, we are either very good or very bad we have no inbetween, the couple of poor runs we've had this season wouldnt have been so bad if we had gotten a couple of draws out of the games we lost (we've only drawn 4 times all season) We wont be in and around the playoff's if we keep going unbeaten 7 matches to losing 7 in a row.

The main problem with Football is that is a sport in which the past or previous matches always matter, fan's only forget if the team are doing well, its hard to not to look bad and say "if only we'd gotten a point here, or if we'd won that game etc etc...."

A well written blog though :D

There is virtue in looking back to learn lessons for the future - what you mustn't do is dwell in the past 'cos it's done with. However, I will NEVER forget the 7-1 drubbing by Peterborough and like it or not, that colours my opinions about the performance of the team & manager this season. We were numb when we left London Road - I've never witnessed anything so bad. Or was losing 3-1 at home to Forest just as bad?

But I acknowledge the positive performances over the last 4 games - the team as a whole has been terrific. So what of the future? Let's just hope for more good performances & results, starting at Brighton on Saturday. COYB!

I sometimes get really anoyed too when I read some posts the usual suspects love to complain I even sometimes think they may be Norwich fans in disguise just trying to fuel negative thoughts....I cant say for sure but some of the criticism has been way way out of line so no your not the only one who gets pi**d off with these negative people they need to wake up and realize that Ipswich are in fact and always have been a good club who try there best to get things right I tottaly agree with you we are in a "gel" pase right now and the gel is starting to set (sorry a little Alan Partridge I know) but even if we loose I have always said this so long as we put 100 % into the game and the players entertained us then who can complain back in the day Sir Bobby said the same things we didnt always always win but we played well and the crowd cheered for that prehaps weve all got a bit ahead of ourselves since then as we were a little known suffolk side (ok we were known but you get the drift...) slaying teams like Arsenal Livlerpool Manchester untds and we will do so again I have no doubt about that at all lets get some belief in our Ipswich town and be happy that we support a club that on the whole have great fans and a great family feel this is our Ipswich and Im really proud of them even if we dont reach playoffs the boys are battling and they are now all understanding the Ipswich values just look at Jimmy celebrating the win over Cardiff thats Alan Brazil all over again....COYB!!!!

Actually, the "lost over half our games this season" claim is getting quite marginal nowadays, being down to 51.5% and that only if you include both cup games. In the League, it's down to 48.4%.

Jewell's overall win ratio in his time with Town is up to 40.35%, better than he managed in his tenure at Bradford and the best (by a non-caretaker) at Ipswich since Royle.

I agree with you Fella, to constantly snipe and gripe is no good however looking back to learn where you went wrong and what you can do to stop the same thing happening again is all the past is good for. I for one support Mr Jewell and his players he is settling an entire new squad and that always takes time.

unfortunatly for the positive people amongst us, more people dwell on negatives than positives in most situations in life.... if you eat at the same place regularly, do you remember the good meals or the bad ones? its the old glass half empty or half full thing!! if we win big or lose big, which tends to run on for longer..... unless we thrash norwich it'll be the lose big which has more legs..... i agree with your sentiments, but i think thsi is just people in general, and more to the point, people on internet forums!!

Well said and the minority moaners fail to realize that they are already so fortunate (I presume they are locals) to be close to the action in UK!

I am from Singapore and it's already a task just to keep up with whats happening (time difference of 8 hours), and relying on some kind souls uploading goal highlights onto YouTube a few days after match day for viewing

it is already difficult enough being a supporter living outside UK, so don't grumble you moaners!

I agree.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but what really gets on my nerves is the small minority who post NOTHING BUT negative comments and even turn positive stories into anti PJ, ME or especially SC rants.
On another note has anyone seen Walberswick cos it must be at least a week since he brightened our day!!!!!

I agree with the gist of your blog and would encourage you to never feel like any blog is pointless if it gets people talking and commenting. May I suggest that negative comments are almost inevitable on a fans' forum, simply because people are far more likely to comment or blog if they have something to complain about. You yourself acknowledge this by admitting you wanted to get this off your chest! When the people are happy, they're mostly silent, and so I think it is to be expected that people mostly complain when things get annoying. It's up to us bloggers to keep posting the positive vibes!
